JUNE 2011
Conference MODFLOW and More 2011: Integrated Hydrologic Modeling
Time: June 5 - 8, 2011
Location: Colorado School of Mines campus in Golden, Colorado.
Description: The conference is dedicated to advances of all types of groundwater modeling, not just the development and use of MODFLOW. Typically 50% or more of the presentations have involved models other than MODFLOW or models based on MODFLOW. We seek to continue this tradition. We hope for a spirited discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of codes.
Organizer: International Ground Water Modeling Center
Colorado School of Mines http://igwmc.mines.edu/
Aims: The purpose of the conference is to bring together model users and developers to exchange ideas on the latest innovations in model applications, discuss the capabilities and limitations of currently available codes, and explore the needs and directions for future developments.
Deadlines: for abstracts 20th of Dicember 2010 and selected papers 4th of April, 2011.
Fee: The Conference registration fee is $595 (US), which includes the conference proceedings, evening receptions, lunches, and breaks. A reduced fee (50%) applies for students registered for a degree.

JULY 2011
International Meeting: Past, Present and Future Change in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation
Time: 12-15 July 2011
Location: Bristol - UK
Description: Observations and numerical modelling experiments have suggested links between variability in the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) and global climate patterns. Reduction in the strength of the overturning is thought to have played a key role in rapid climate change in the past and may have the potential to so in the future. This is the motivation for research conducted in the UK RAPID and US AMOC science programmes. The meeting is a joint initiative between the two programmes, and will explore the scientific understanding of Atlantic variability on a range of time scales, with a main focus of the role of the AMOC.
Organizers: RAPID and USAMOC

AUGUST 2011
3rd International Conference on Occurance, Fate, Effects and Analysis of Emerging Contaminants in the Environment
Time: 23- 26 August 2011
Location: Copenhagen, Denmark
Description: Emerging contaminants such as pharmaceuticals, antibiotics, hormones, personal care products, nanoparticles, and their myriad degradation products have become a worldwide environmental issue and a rapidly expanding research area.
Complex mixtures of emerging contaminants have been documented in many aquatic and terrestrial environmental compartments, including plant and animal tissues and drinking water.
Emerging contaminants have been associated with significant environmental impacts and dramatic effects, such as the feminization of fish and the catastrophic decline of vulture populations in Asia, as well as more subtle effects such as altered swimming behavior in amphipods and slowed reaction to a predator stimulus in larval fathead minnows.
Thus, emerging contaminants present numerous challenges for scientists, engineers, regulators and the public.

OCTOBER 2011
International Conference: Science for the environment - environment for society. Bridging the gap between scientists and practitioners in environmental science.
Time: 5-4 October 2011
Location: Aarhus, Denmark
Description: The overarching aim of the conference is to place existing scientific knowledge of environment and society within the context of relevant EU environmental legislation, and vice versa. The common theme is: "How can we ensure that the research agenda and policy solutions are sufficiently holistic to address the complex issues which interlink science, environment and society". The main topics cover a range of issues which confront both scientists and practitioners within today’s legislative policy framework.
For detailed description of topics read http://www.dmu.dk/en/news/arrangements/conferences/environmentconference2011/descriptionoftopics/
Organizer: National Environmental Research Institute, Danish conference advisory board in cooperation with Danish Ministry of the Environment, PEER and Aarhus University.

WCRP: Open Science Conference (OSC): Climate Research in Service to Society
Time:24-28 October 2011
Location: Denver, CO - USA
Description: A better understanding of the behaviour of the climate system and its interactions with other Earth system components is critical to predict its future evolution, reduce vulnerability to high impact weather and climate events, and sustain life.
This need is perhaps greater than ever before given that humans have emerged as the dominant agent of future change.
Progress will require, moreover, an increasingly holistic approach across scientific disciplines, as well as an unprecedented commitment to the development of a diverse and talented future workforce.
Organizer: WCRP (World Climate Research Programme)
Registration, Deadlines and fee: 30 June 2011 / 24 October 2011
