Headline News from the Board

New full name for RECETO, to signal the inclusion of biology and microbiology as important elements of the research school.

The acronym RECETO is kept, while the new full name of the research school is:

Research School of Environmental Chemistry, Microbiology, and Toxicology

  • 13 new Ph.D. students have begun their work since the January newsletter. They are based at 4 different institutions (KU-LIFE, DTU-FOOD, DTU-E&R, and AU-NERI). Their names and links to descriptions of their project topics are given below.
  •  RECETO M. Sc. Scholarships – each 30.000 DKr - for the best M.Sc. students who are working on a thesis topic in environmental chemistry, microbiology, and toxicology with one or more of the research groups within RECETO - are now open for application. The purpose of the grant is to ensure that thesis work culminates in a fully developed paper that is submitted to a scientific journal. Applications for the scholarships can be submitted at any time. See details at www.receto.dk.
  •  RECETO Post-Doc grants with a duration of 3- 6 months can be applied for. The purpose of the grants is to strengthen collaborative research in the research groups within RECETO and to contribute to RECETO educational activities. There are two annual deadlines, August 1, 2007 and March 1, 2008. See details at www.receto.dk.
  •  RECETO travel grants for participating in Ph.D. courses abroad can be applied for at any time. See details at www.receto.dk.
  •  New organization for post-graduate education in Denmark. Danish Research Schools are facing new challenges as post-graduate training is reorganized as a consequence of changes to the Danish legislation about universities. Faculties are given the responsibility to organize post-graduate education within Ph.D. Schools – usually with one Ph.D. School per faculty. Irrespective of the new institutional landscapes, Ph.D. students and supervisors continue to have a strong need to network and share knowledge and experience across institutional borders. The RECETO board will make an effort to ensure that RECETO members can continue to collaborate and work at different faculties and institutions. Various initiatives will be taken in the autumn of 2007.

 Next board meetings:

  • August 10 at KU-NAT
  • November 27 at Lund
