Call for 1/3 stipends application round ‐ spring 2008 - 10.04.2008
1/3 stipends application round ‐ spring 2008
The Danish Research Councils (FI) have announced a new round of 1/3
stipends. For a Ph.D. project 1/3 (550.000 kr incl. 20 % OH) stipend can be applied
from FI, rest has to be financed by the home institutions, other research grants,
industries, etc. Faculty of Life Sciences has agreed to finance 1/3 for projects at KU-LIFE.
However, for this application round cofinanciation from the
private sector is not a prerequisite. Formally, the heads of post graduate
education programs (the former research schools) can apply – each of these units
have to send one combined application, which however can be divided into
different themes. RECETO will send one combined application and we hope to be
able to include many nice suggestions for Ph.D. projects. You do not need binding
contracts for cofinanciation at the time of application, but confirmation of
cofinanciation should be forwarded no later than 12 weeks after receipt of a
grant from FI. The deadline for the full application to FI is 30th of May. The
announcement can be seen at:
http://fi.dk/site/forside/soeg-stoette/opslag-stoettemuligheder/opslag-2008/opslag-samfinansierede-stipendier-2008.
In this application round emphasis is on i) cross‐ or interdisciplinary projects,
and ii) cooperation between research groups coming from different institutions
or from different faculties within the same institution. The emphasis on crossdisciplinarity
is so strong that all projects of good quality fulfilling criteria for
cross‐disciplinarity will be funded before all other projects. RECETO is in a
particular strong position with respect to fulfilling these criteria as we form a
network between many different institutions and faculties – and in your
applications you should make an effort to harvest the maximum benefit of our
network and cooperation between the RECETO partners and research groups as
this will make a very strong foundation for our application.
We ask you to send in applications for 1/3 stipends. What do we need?
1) Title of the Ph.D. project
2) Short description of the project: i) 2 – 3 lines ultrashort description, and ii) 10 –
15 lines (motivation, aim, content, expected outcome)
3) Name and address of the research groups participating in the project; names of
main‐ and cosupervisors; identification of the university where the Ph.D. student
is to be enrolled (if not otherwise stated we assume that the main supervisor is
the one who is responsible for the project).
4) Cross‐disciplinarity
i) Short description of the disciplinary competences and strengths of the research
groups contributing to the project
ii) Identification of the cross‐disciplinary characteristics and strengths of the
project
ii) Synergies aimed at in the project
5) Financiation
Identify the sources of the two remaining thirds, and provide documentation
(even if preliminary) for cofinanciation. Note, that other grants from the
Independent Research Council cannot be used as source of cofinanciation.
6) Timing
No project can start before 1st of January 2009. Describe when the Ph.D. projects
are planned to start and how the time of the project is distributed between
institutions.
The text should be provided in English. RECETO has not decided if the application
should contain specific themes. Rather we will wait and see what appears.
However, all Ph.D. projects we apply for should fall within the four themes of the
RECETO program (see homepage). We plan to send the application to both FNU
and FTP. It is likely that projects which can demonstrate how fundamental
understanding can lead to novel solutions and environmental technologies will be
most competitive. We strongly recommend that you utilize the opportunities for
cross‐disciplinarity within the RECETO network in the projects you apply for.
Please send your applications to the RECETO secretariate before 1 May 2008 by
e‐mail (receto@life.ku.dk).
