Jobs at Applied R&D Center (ARDC) at the Southern Nevada Water Authority

The Applied R&D Center (ARDC) at the Southern Nevada Water Authority has several immediate openings for ambitious research oriented staff and students. The ARDC focuses on emerging water issues and technologies related to drinking water, wastewater, and water reuse. The ARDC is equipped with state of the art equipment, including several LC-MS, GC-MS, and ICP-MS systems. We also have facilities to test water treatment processes including oxidation (i.e., ozone and UV-AOP), membranes (i.e., RO, NF, UF, MF, both ceramic and polymeric), activated carbon, and others. The opportunities for water research in Southern Nevada are diverse and challenging. We are actively recruiting and we would very much appreciate if you could direct strong candidates to apply. You are welcomed to contact me directly if you need more information; however, I also provide the contact information for specific inquiries which each position below.

Our recruitment is handled by the Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD), so please direct inquires regarding salaries and application requirements to www.lvvwd.com under "job openings" on the left column of the home page.

Post-Doctoral Researcher

We currently have one immediate opening, and others that will likely become available in the near future. Our post-doctoral researchers come from a diversity of educational and professional backgrounds. We are open to strong candidates in engineering, chemistry, hydrology, and other water related fields. The post-doctoral researcher position begins immediately with a competitive salary and full benefits (including three weeks of vacation/personal time, health insurance, retirement, and more). Although we are considering many types of backgrounds, we are especially interested in those candidates with experience in natural organic matter characterization and/or membrane treatment processes (desalination and filtration). We also have several projects underway regarding advanced oxidation, disinfection by-products, and ultra-trace methods for emerging contaminants. I am certain you will find the SNWA program to be strong and advantageous for developing important career skills/experience. For more specific information, please feel free to contact Dr. Ben Stanford at ben.stanford@snwa.com

Laboratory Analyst

This position is an entry level chemistry related position, which requires a bachelor's degree (or higher) in chemistry, engineering, or biology. The position involves both routine analyses and assisting in complex ultra-trace analytical procedures. The Analyst position will also assist in bench and pilot scale advanced water treatment evaluations. This is a great position for someone who is interested in starting a career in water quality/treatment. This is a salaried position and carries the same benefits as the Post-Doctoral Researcher described previously. For more specific information, please contact Brett Vanderford at brett.vanderford@snwa.com

Research Interns

The ARDC currently has openings for approximately six interns positions. Most of these positions are reserved for graduate students in their final stages of earning MS or Ph.D. degrees. These positions pay competitively, but do not provide fringe benefits. Interns are expected to become directly involved in on-going research projects and will work closely with post-doctoral researchers and research chemists. This positions also provide independent hands-on research and publication opportunities for ambitious candidates. For more information please contact Dr. Mark Benotti at mark.benotti@snwa.com

Pilot Plant Specialist

This position is expected to open in mid-late summer of this year. Qualified candidates generally have strong engineering backgrounds and are well familiar with water treatment and chemistry. Interested candidates should contact Eric Wert, PE, at eric.wert@snwa.com.

We appreciate your dissemination of these opportunities to qualified candidates. If you have any questions regarding these opportunities, please contact the people indicated in this email and/or me directly.

Thank you,

Shane Snyder
