PhD Course in Plant Nutrients in Terrestrial Ecosystems - Acquisition and Turnover - 26.04.2010

Location: Faculty of Life Science, University of Copenhagen, Denmark
Description: The course is mainly theoretical, with an emphasis on literature review, focused topic discussions, modeling exercises, as well as seminars given by specialist researchers and by the students themselves.
The following topics will be covered:
• Nutrient requirements of plants and uptake mechanisms
• Soil organic matter, C and N cycles. Pitfalls and gaps in methods and knowledge
• Fertilizers: lesson learned from soil chemistry and plant physiology
• Rhizosphere effects in relation to macro- and micro-nutrients as well as contaminants
• Focus: a critical review of soil and plant testing
• Food quality and soil fertility (biofortification)
